Hail damage to shingles, metal & siding
Hail bruises shingles and dents metal roofing, siding, gutters, and vents — damage that’s easy to miss from a ladder. We document every slope.
Hail, wind, or a fallen tree damaged your roof, and the insurer approved a patch, blamed wear and tear, or held back depreciation. Our Alabama roof damage claim lawyers in Birmingham help homeowners statewide when a roof or hail claim is denied or underpaid. Free claim review.
Why roof claims stall
Spring and late-fall storms across Dixie Alley bring hail and straight-line winds, and in October 2026 Hurricane Isaias downed trees around Dothan and left damage from Mobile to Birmingham. After a big storm, adjusters move fast and roof damage gets missed.
You don’t have to accept the first estimate. An Alabama insurer that refuses a covered claim without a legitimate reason, or skips a real investigation, can be held accountable. We bring an independent inspection and press for the real cost.
"Within two weeks of hiring them, the adjuster came back out. Within two months, my claim was paid in full, about 4× what the carrier originally offered."— Marcus T. · Wind Claim
Roof claims we handle
Whether your hail damage insurance claim was denied, cut to a repair, or stuck in review, we can help.
Hail bruises shingles and dents metal roofing, siding, gutters, and vents — damage that’s easy to miss from a ladder. We document every slope.
Straight-line winds lift tabs, break seals, and tear shingles away. Creased shingles can look fine but no longer hold. We show the damage the carrier didn’t count.
“Old roof” is a common reason claims get cut, but age and storm damage aren’t the same. We tie the damage to the storm date and challenge denials that skip that step.
Carriers often price a repair, or a few slopes, when the roof needs replacing. If new shingles can’t match, a patch leaves a visible mismatch. We check what the policy says.
Many replacement-cost policies pay actual cash value first and hold back depreciation until the roof is replaced. We check the math and push to get the holdback released.
Water that came in through storm damage ruins ceilings and drywall, and a tree through the roof adds framing and debris costs. The claim should cover the inside too.

Alabama roof claim guide
Every roof claim turns on its own policy and facts, so treat this as general information, not legal advice.
Keep dated photos of bruised shingles, creased tabs, and dented gutters, vents & flashing; the storm date and local weather reports; any pre-storm roof photos; and an independent inspection of every slope, not just one.
On a replacement-cost policy, the first check is often actual cash value — replacement cost minus depreciation. The holdback is usually recoverable once the roof is replaced, within the policy’s time limits.
When part of a roof is replaced, new shingles may not match. Whether the insurer owes a uniform roof turns on your policy wording, such as “like kind and quality,” and on whether matching shingles are still made.
Alabama requires insurers to offer premium discounts for IBHS FORTIFIED homes and a FORTIFIED roof endorsement to rebuild a covered damaged roof to that standard (Ala. Code §§ 27-31D-2, 27-31D-2.1). Use a certified FORTIFIED roofer for repairs, or the designation may not renew.
Alabama Department of Insurance rules (Ala. Admin. Code r. 482-1-125) generally require insurers to acknowledge a property claim within 15 days and accept or deny it within 30 days after a properly completed proof of loss, or explain in writing why they need more time.
Alabama generally allows six years to sue for breach of an insurance contract (Ala. Code § 6-2-34) and two years for bad faith (Ala. Code § 6-2-38). Your policy may add notice and suit conditions, and the holdback its own deadline.
Alabama does not license public adjusters, and the Alabama State Bar treats negotiating someone else’s claim as the practice of law. A roofer can inspect and repair; negotiating takes an Alabama-licensed attorney.
The Department’s Consumer Services Division takes complaints online, by live chat at aldoi.gov, and at (334) 241-4141 or (800) 433-3966. It can press your insurer, but it can’t value your claim.
Roof claim checklist
Check these before you sign a release or book a patch job.
Stay off the roof. From the ground, photograph each slope you can see, plus gutters, vents, siding, and hailstones beside a coin. Keep the estimate, every letter, roofer quotes, and repair receipts.
Which slopes did you inspect? Why a repair, not a replacement? How much depreciation was held back, and how do I recover it? Did you consider matching or FORTIFIED coverage? Get answers in writing.
Get your own inspection if the estimate covers only a few slopes or calls fresh damage wear and tear. Call a lawyer before signing a release or accepting a “final” payment, or if a deadline is near.
Why Alabama homeowners call us
We never represent insurance companies.
So there’s no conflict when we tell an adjuster the roof needs replacing.
We never work for carriers, so when we dispute a wear-and-tear denial, the insurer knows we have no relationships to protect.
We work on contingency — no fee unless we win, with no retainer or hourly bill. If there is no recovery, you owe no attorney’s fee, but you are still responsible for case costs and litigation expenses. We explain fees and costs in writing first.

Our process
We handle the adjuster, the inspections, and the paperwork.
Free and confidential. Send the declarations page, the adjuster’s estimate or denial letter, and your roof photos.
Independent roofers and engineers inspect every slope, document what the carrier missed, and price a proper repair or replacement, including matching and interior damage.
We send a documented demand showing what the roof claim is worth and where the estimate falls short. Many disputes resolve here, and we explain appraisal if it fits.
If the carrier still won’t pay what the policy owes, we can file suit in Alabama state or federal court.
Past results
Every claim is different. These are recoveries our attorneys obtained for policyholders after a lowball offer or wrongful denial.
These results were obtained for clients in other states, not in Alabama. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Each case is evaluated on its specific facts and policy terms.
What clients say
"I was about to accept $11,000 from my carrier for a roof I'd been quoted $38,000 to replace. Property People Law got me $46,500 and handled the whole thing. I literally never spoke to the adjuster again."
"They were calm, clear, and didn't talk down to me. Within a day I knew what my options were. Six months later my house was actually fixed, not patched."
These client experiences come from clients in other states, not in Alabama, and describe individual results. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome; every claim turns on its own facts.
Roof & hail claim questions
Usually, yes. Most Alabama homeowners policies cover sudden hail and wind damage to the roof. Disputes tend to be about how much damage there is, whether this storm caused it, and whether a replacement is owed.
It depends on how far the damage runs, whether a proper repair is possible, and your policy. If damage covers much of the roof, or shingles can’t be patched well, a replacement may be owed.
Ask for the inspection report and photos behind it, and compare them with the storm date, weather reports, and an independent inspection. Age doesn’t explain fresh hail bruises, so a blanket wear-and-tear denial is worth challenging.
Many replacement-cost policies pay actual cash value first — replacement cost minus depreciation — and hold back the rest until the work is done. Your deductible comes out too.
Check your policy’s loss settlement section. It usually requires you to replace the roof and claim the holdback within a set time, often with an invoice. Ask in writing and keep copies.
It depends mainly on your policy wording, such as “like kind and quality,” and on facts like whether matching shingles are still made and how visible a mismatch would be.
FORTIFIED is an IBHS standard for storm-resistant roofs. Alabama requires insurers to offer FORTIFIED premium discounts and an endorsement that pays to rebuild a covered damaged roof to that standard (Ala. Code §§ 27-31D-2, 27-31D-2.1).
Often, when wind or a storm brings it down on your home. Coverage usually reaches roof and structural repairs, interior water damage, and some debris removal, subject to policy limits.
Under Ala. Admin. Code r. 482-1-125, an insurer generally must acknowledge a property claim within 15 days and accept or deny it within 30 days after a properly completed proof of loss, or explain in writing why it needs more time.
Alabama generally allows six years to sue for breach of an insurance contract (Ala. Code § 6-2-34) and two years for bad faith (Ala. Code § 6-2-38). Your policy may add shorter notice and suit conditions, so don’t wait.
